BEI Member M & W Farm Meats Apprentice Conor Reynolds Crowned Premier Young Butcher By National Federation of Meat
Conor Reynolds, from M&W Farm Meats, Portadown, Northern Ireland, has been crowned Premier Young Butcher 2018.
The Premier Young Butcher 2018 competition was held at the NEC in Birmingham on 16th April. The event saw a shortlist of top 18 to 23-year-old butcher apprentices put to the test in front of a live audience.
Conor won the competition and title of Premier Young Butcher, taking trophies in all categories.
Meat Management spoke to Clayton Moore, the owner of M&W Farm Meats, about Conor’s achievement.
“He’s done so well and done us all proud,” said Clayton. “He’s worked incredibly hard for this, and having been with us for just a year, has improved so much. He’s studied hard, and been enthusiastic throughout the whole process. There’s only so much training we can give, and a lot of it he’s taken on and learnt himself. He really deserves this, and we’re all just very proud.”
Daniel Binns, who works for J Brindon Addy in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, was the runner up in the contest.
The six category competition tested the limits of the craft skills of contestants over four hours. Judges assessed and evaluated competitors for innovation, good working practices, precision and variety of products in Ready to Eat, Stuffed Roast, Seam Butchery, Barbecue, Kitchen Ready and Display.
The Premier Young Butcher Competition 2018 was organised by the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT)
