Best of the Best at Butchery Excellence All Ireland BBQ Championship Awards


A spectrum of butchery talent and achievement included Liam Walsh of Eddie Walsh & Sons, who was crowned this year’s All Ireland BBQ Champion. With over 20 other awards throughout the competition.

The 2018 Butchery Excellence All Ireland BBQ Championships Award Ceremony, one of the most prestigious showcase of achievement in Irish meat, was held on Wednesday 13 June, at Aughnacloy Golf Club.

An expert judging panel overseen proceedings, including Chief Judge Dave Lang, who sat alongside award-winning sausage maker Ernan McGettigan, Keith Fisher, CEO of the Institute of Meat and Leslie Williams a renowned food critic for the Irish Examiner and Irish Food Guild Writer.

Liam Walsh, owner of Eddie Walsh & Sons is famous for his sausage making success in Ireland stated, “This is an amazing success and I would like to thank our staff and customers at EWS, because without them we wouldn’t be where we are today. We are absolutely delighted to have won the title of All Ireland BBQ Champion 2018 and we will celebrate our win and hopefully more people will get the chance to sample our award winning produce for years to come.”

The competition was open to all Butchers in Ireland and attracted a record volume of entries across 12 categories. Rhonda Montgomery, CEO of Butchery Excellence International states “Eddie Walsh & Sons is a deserving winner of this award. They have worked hard and developed as a business over the years of being a member of ours and it’s wonderful to see Liam getting the recognition he deserves. The calibre of the entrants this year was exceptional, so to have come away with a title of All Ireland Champion is a great achievement.” And “I would like to thank all the butchers who took part for your continuous support and improvement in these competitions, because without you none of this would be possible.”


The ceremony was hosted by Dave Lang and, the judges awarded runner up awards to those who came close to victory this year. This went to those who the judges felt were deserving of this extra level of recognition, Bryan McNamee of B&M Meats and Mark Williams of William’s Butchers.
